A weekend marred by violence has left the community of Gilgil Sub-County reeling as police investigate three unrelated murder incidents. The grim discoveries unfolded on Sunday evening, with two middle-aged women and a young man losing their lives in what has become a tragic series of events.
Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly
The first incident took place in Pakawa Estate, where a domestic quarrel ended in tragedy. A man in his forties, who had been living with his partner for the past three years, allegedly killed her after a night of drinking and fighting. According to Gilgil OCPD Jamleck Ngaruiya, the man came home intoxicated and, following an argument, violently attacked his girlfriend.
The situation escalated quickly, with neighbors responding to the commotion. They found the woman lying in a pool of blood and managed to restrain the suspect until the police arrived. The suspect was subsequently arrested and is now in custody at Gilgil police station, facing murder charges.
“This is a very unfortunate incident, and the suspect will be held accountable for his actions. We are urging couples to seek help before such disputes escalate to violence,” said OCPD Ngaruiya, stressing the importance of conflict resolution in relationships.
Mysterious Death of a Young Woman
In a separate incident, the body of a young woman was discovered near LangaLanga Estate, just a few kilometers from Gilgil Town. The lack of identification documents has made it difficult for authorities to determine her identity. Initial investigations suggest that the woman was killed elsewhere, and her body was transported and dumped in the area.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the woman sustained a fatal blow to the back of her head, likely inflicted with a blunt object. We are following up on leads to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death,” OCPD Ngaruiya stated. The police are continuing their investigations, hoping to uncover more details and bring those responsible to justice.
A Deadly Dispute Over Alcohol
The third incident occurred in the Kikopey area, a popular spot known for its Nyama Choma joints. What should have been a night of camaraderie among friends turned deadly when a disagreement over an alcohol bill escalated into violence. A young man, part of a group visiting the pub, was stabbed in the chest during the altercation.
Reports indicate that a brief commotion erupted between the deceased and his friends over who should settle the bill. In a tragic turn of events, one of the friends, now a suspect at large, drew a knife and fatally stabbed the young man. The victim was rushed to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“We have launched a manhunt for the suspect, and we are confident that we will bring him to justice soon,” OCPD Ngaruiya assured the public. He added that such acts of violence are not only senseless but also devastating to the community.
A Community in Mourning
The string of murders has cast a dark shadow over Gilgil, a town still grappling with the aftermath of a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of a woman and her four children just days earlier. The accident occurred on the Gilgil-Nakuru Highway, where a Mercedes Benz saloon car collided head-on with a trailer, leaving no survivors among the family.
As the community mourns these losses, the local police are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served for the victims of these heinous crimes. The bodies of the three victims from this weekend’s incidents have been taken to the local mortuary, and inquest files have been opened to ascertain the exact causes of death.
