The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has received national recognition for its role in youth empowerment, clinching the top award in the Youth Empowerment and Advocacy category during the 2024 Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show in Nyeri. The event, held at the Kabiru-ini Showground, saw NACADA’s exceptional contribution to combating drug and substance abuse among the youth acknowledged by both the event’s judges and high-profile guests.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited the NACADA stand, lauded the Authority for its tireless efforts to educate the public, particularly the youth, about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse. He further emphasized the critical role NACADA plays in advocating for youth empowerment and the need to strengthen these initiatives. Gachagua’s visit was a highlight of the event, as he commended NACADA’s dedication to combating the rampant substance abuse issues affecting many young people across the country.

NACADA’s Impressive Display

NACADA’s stand at the ASK Show was a focal point of attraction for many visitors, owing to its innovative and interactive displays. The Authority showcased its extensive outreach programs, which focus on educating young people about the hazards of drug and alcohol abuse, while providing essential information on available rehabilitation and recovery resources.

Through a blend of exhibits, educational sessions, and youth-centred programs, NACADA’s presence at the show was both informative and engaging. Visitors to the stand were able to participate in real-time demonstrations, access printed materials on drug prevention, and engage in meaningful discussions with experts on how to combat substance abuse.

The Authority also spotlighted the success of its rehabilitation programs, designed to offer hope to those struggling with addiction. These initiatives have been fundamental in creating awareness around the available support systems and encouraging youth to seek help when faced with substance-related challenges.
