Mohamed Salah Signals Final Year at Liverpool Amid Uncertainty Over New Contract

Mohamed Salah has suggested that this season could be his last at Liverpool, revealing that the club has not approached him regarding a new contract. The 32-year-old’s current deal is set to expire next summer, and Salah admitted to treating Liverpool’s recent 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford as if it might be his final appearance at the iconic venue.

“I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,” Salah told Sky Sports after the match. “Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’. I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

These comments have sparked speculation about Salah’s future at Liverpool, with fans and pundits alike wondering if the Egyptian star will remain at Anfield beyond this season. Salah’s current contract, signed in July 2022, was a lucrative three-year deal that made him reportedly the highest-paid player in the club’s history, earning more than £350,000 a week. Despite this, Liverpool turned down a substantial £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad last September, showing their commitment to keeping Salah in the squad.

When questioned about Salah’s statements, Liverpool manager Arne Slot played down the speculation, choosing to focus on the player’s performance rather than his contract situation. “It’s a lot of ‘if’,” Slot remarked. “At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well. I don’t talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

Salah’s performance against Manchester United was nothing short of remarkable, contributing to Liverpool’s commanding victory over their long-standing rivals. Salah’s goal not only sealed the win but also continued his record-breaking run at Old Trafford. He has now scored in five consecutive away matches against Manchester United in the Premier League, becoming the first player to achieve this feat.

His overall record against Manchester United is equally impressive; Salah has been directly involved in 17 of Liverpool’s last 23 Premier League goals against the Red Devils, with 11 goals and six assists. He has scored 10 goals in nine appearances at Old Trafford for Liverpool in all competitions, making him the second player to score 10 or more goals at a single away ground in Premier League history, following Alan Shearer, who scored 10 at Elland Road.

Salah’s influence on the field remains undeniable, and his ability to perform in high-stakes matches like the one against Manchester United showcases his importance to the team. Liverpool’s victory over their fierce rivals moved them to second in the Premier League table, just behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference.

Reflecting on the match, Salah emphasized the importance of maintaining their form if Liverpool are to challenge for the title this season. “A great result,” Salah said. “Everyone knows the derby is important for the fans and the city. We need to carry on and if you want to fight for the league you have to win each game. I managed to be involved in three so I am happy about that.”

As Salah’s contract saga unfolds, Liverpool supporters will hope the club takes decisive action to secure the future of one of their most influential players. However, for now, Salah remains focused on his game, aiming to make the most of what could be his final season in a Liverpool shirt.
