Citizen TV Poaches Journalists from KTN and NTV

Citizen TV has strategically recruited several prominent reporters from rival stations, further solidifying its position in the market.

Following an exclusive report, it has been confirmed that Citizen TV has successfully brought on board Emmanuel Too, KTN’s rising political reporter. In addition to Too, Citizen TV has also secured Francis Odee, an investigative reporter, and former KTN political reporter Willy Lusige.

Citizen TV’s recruitment efforts extend beyond KTN. The station has also hired Melita ole Tenges from NTV, who served as a senior political reporter and standby news anchor.

The recruitment process, involving informal discussions with these journalists, culminated in face-to-face interviews this week, where job offers were officially extended. The new recruits are set to begin their roles at Royal Media Services (RMS) on Tuesday, June 18.

Sources indicate that Citizen TV is also in discussions with Franklin Wallah, a seasoned crime and investigative reporter currently with TV47. However, it is unclear if he will join the new team at Citizen TV.

Citizen TV’s targeted recruitment of seasoned crime and investigative reporters, alongside emerging political journalists. For example, Citizen TV had been monitoring Emmanuel Too’s work for months, particularly impressed by his comprehensive report on President William Ruto’s US State visit, which became a trending topic.

Similarly, Citizen TV had been tracking Melita ole Tenges since his early days at NMG in May 2017, recognizing his rapid rise through the ranks.

Willy Lusige, previously a KTN News correspondent for the Western region, has been freelancing since leaving Standard Group at the end of 2023.

Sources reveal that Citizen TV is employing a strategic approach to remain competitive amid the rise of digital media. By focusing on high-quality crime, investigations, and political reporting, Royal Media aims to maintain its market leadership.

This aggressive recruitment follows the departure of key journalists, such as crime and investigative journalist Hassan Mugambi and senior political reporter Chemutain Goin, who both left for government roles in March. Mugambi joined the Ministry of Defence as a Communications Advisor to Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, while Goin became the Principal Media Relations Officer for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula. These positions had not been filled until now.
