Governor Abdulswamad Condemns DP Gachagua After Calling for Noordin Haji’s Resignation

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir on Thursday issued a strong condemnation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following Gachagua’s controversial remarks about National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.

In a press statement, Governor Abdulswamad expressed deep concern over the Deputy President’s comments, which he believes have exposed the nation, the presidency, and the country’s security agencies to ridicule, ethnic division, and potential exploitation. He emphasized that such remarks are not only inappropriate but also dangerous, particularly in a country already grappling with numerous challenges.

Governor Abdulswamad argued that Gachagua’s scathing comments have only served to fuel confusion and public anger. He noted that these statements are particularly damaging at a time when the younger generation is increasingly disillusioned with the country’s direction. The Governor stressed that the youth’s faith in the nation’s leadership is dwindling, and inflammatory remarks from high-ranking officials only exacerbate this disillusionment.

He went on to caution the Deputy President against the casual discussion of sensitive security matters in public forums. As a member of the National Security Council, Gachagua is expected to uphold the confidentiality and integrity of national security issues. Abdulswamad highlighted the importance of maintaining a united front, especially when dealing with matters that have far-reaching implications for national stability.

The Governor’s rebuke comes amidst a backdrop of rising political tension and public dissatisfaction. Abdulswamad’s statement reflects a broader concern among political leaders and citizens alike regarding the need for responsible and measured discourse from those in positions of power.
