Migori County, located in the southwestern part of Kenya and bordering Tanzania, has reported a suspected case of Mpox, a viral disease that has raised significant health concerns globally. This announcement was made by Mabel Chanzu, the Chief Officer for Health Services in Migori County, during the launch of several critical health units at the Migori County Referral Hospital. In response to the suspected Mpox case, Migori County has intensified its surveillance efforts, particularly at the border points of Isebania and Muhuru, which are known for their high traffic between Kenya and Tanzania. Chief Officer Chanzu revealed that approximately 1,000 individuals have already been screened at these border points as part of the county’s proactive measures. Additionally, the Migori County Referral Hospital has implemented enhanced screening services to bolster surveillance efforts. These initiatives are aimed at early detection and prevention, ensuring that any suspected cases of Mpox are quickly identified and contained.

Since the declaration, the Ministry of Health has reported 29 suspected cases across the country, with 23 of those testing positive. Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, who officiated the event, reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the county’s healthcare infrastructure.
