Fierce fighting erupted in Vovchansk as Ukrainian forces endeavor to encircle Russian units that have crossed into the area from nearby borders. Intense clashes are centered around an aggregate plant on the town’s northern outskirts, as reported by military bloggers from both sides of the conflict.
According to Stanislav Buniatov, a Ukrainian squad commander known as Osman, the situation in Vovchansk, located east of Kharkiv and near the state border, is challenging but under control. He noted that Ukrainian troops have effectively surrounded Russian forces and maintained their positions, occasionally launching successful counterattacks to reclaim territory and push back the enemy. The Russian incursion, part of a broader offensive launched last month, aims to establish a buffer zone preventing Ukrainian strikes on Russian cities like Belgorod, according to Kremlin statements.
