Kakamega County has been officially announced as the host for the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games. The confirmation came during the closing ceremony of the 21st FEASSSA Games at Bukedea Stadium in Uganda on Monday. FEASSSA President, Mugisha, made the announcement, expressing high expectations for the upcoming event in Kenya.
The choice of Kakamega as the host city marks a significant moment for Kenyan sports, as it will be the first time since 2016 that Kenya has been entrusted with the responsibility of hosting the prestigious regional games. The 2016 edition was held in Eldoret, and it was renowned for its well-organized and competitive events. FEASSSA President Mugisha has called for meticulous preparations to ensure that the 22nd edition of the games will be a top-tier showcase of sportsmanship and organizational excellence.
“Kenya will host next year’s edition of the games, and we expect a world-class showpiece that captures the spirit of the competitions,” Mugisha stated. “Kenya always produces a masterclass whenever they are tasked to host the games, and we look forward to the same experience next year.”
The FEASSSA Games, which bring together secondary school athletes from across East Africa, are celebrated for their high level of competition and the spirit of unity they foster among the participating nations. The games provide a platform for young athletes to display their talents and build international sports networks.
This year’s FEASSSA Games, held in Uganda, concluded with Uganda retaining the overall title. The host nation secured a total of 30 medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze. Uganda’s continued dominance in the regional sports arena reflects their robust development programs and commitment to nurturing young talent.
Kenya, which has traditionally been a strong contender in the FEASSSA Games, finished as runners-up this year. The Kenyan team earned 27 medals, comprising 11 gold, 10 silver, and six bronze. This performance marked an improvement from last year’s tally, which saw Kenya collect 23 medals, including eight gold, seven silver, and seven bronze.
The improvement in Kenya’s performance this year signals a positive trend and raises expectations for their performance when they host the games in 2025. The opportunity to host the FEASSSA Games is not just a chance for Kakamega County to showcase its facilities and hospitality but also a significant boost for the region’s sports infrastructure and community engagement.
Kakamega County, located in the western part of Kenya, has been making strides in sports development. The hosting of the FEASSSA Games is expected to enhance the county’s profile as a key player in regional sports and attract further investments in sports facilities and programs.
As the countdown to the 2025 FEASSSA Games begins, the focus will now shift to the preparations and planning needed to deliver a memorable and successful event. The local organizing committee, along with national and regional sports authorities, will need to work collaboratively to ensure that all logistical, infrastructural, and promotional aspects are meticulously handled.
The 2025 FEASSSA Games promise to be a significant milestone for Kenyan sports, and the anticipation is already building among athletes, fans, and stakeholders. With the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the Kenyan sports community, the 2025 edition of the games is set to be a memorable celebration of youth sports and regional camaraderie.
