ILC Acting Regional Coordinator Eva Maria emphasized the significant challenges faced by small-scale farmers, calling for collective attention from all stakeholders. She highlighted the pressing issues that hinder agricultural productivity and food security, urging concerted efforts to address these concerns effectively.
EAFF CEO Stephen Muchiri echoed these sentiments, expressing regret over the country’s decline in agricultural production. He attributed this downturn to various factors, including soil acidity and inadequate resolution of land-related challenges. Muchiri emphasized the need for increased public investments to bolster small-scale farming systems, which he believes will not only enhance food security but also alleviate poverty across the nation.
The Regional Platform (RP) 2, facilitated by the International Land Coalition Africa (ILC) and hosted by the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF), underscored the critical role of supporting small-scale farmers in boosting agricultural output. Their call for prioritizing these farmers aims to foster sustainable development and resilience within the agricultural sector, ensuring a more robust future for food production in the region.
