As the criminal case against Boeing over the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 continues, Ribbeck Law Chartered has announced its intention to investigate the recent crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216. The tragedy occurred on December 29, 2024, in Muan, South Korea, claiming the lives of all 179 passengers and crew onboard.
During an interview from Chicago, Holly Christianson, lead counsel for Ribbeck Law in this case, stressed the importance of examining all potential causes of the crash. “Planes do not crash due to a single cause,” Christianson explained. “These tragedies typically result from a combination of factors, such as weather, pilot error, and mechanical failure.”
Christianson warned against prematurely attributing the crash to factors like a bird strike or runway design issues, emphasizing that all possible causes must be thoroughly examined.
Given Boeing’s ongoing criminal investigation in the U.S. related to the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes, Christianson highlighted the need for scrutiny of the Jeju Air aircraft’s mechanical systems. “We cannot rule out potential mechanical issues with the aircraft,” she stated.
Christianson drew parallels with the Lion Air Flight 610 crash, where initial blame was placed on the pilots. She noted that it was only after Ribbeck Law initiated legal action in the U.S. that Boeing’s failure to properly train pilots on the MCAS system came to light.
The attorney also raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest, pointing out that Boeing is one of the parties involved in the investigation of Jeju Air Flight 2216. “The integrity of the investigation could be compromised,” Christianson said, urging independent and transparent inquiry.
This investigation comes at a time when public trust in Boeing’s safety standards remains under intense scrutiny, further spotlighting the need for rigorous accountability and oversight in aviation safety.
Ribbeck Law’s investigation will seek to uncover all contributing factors to prevent future tragedies and deliver justice to the families of those who lost their lives in the Jeju Air Flight 2216 crash.
