Political leaders from the Rift Valley region have come out in strong support of President William Ruto’s administration, asserting that the country is on the right path despite the challenges faced. They have urged Kenyans to ignore negative voices, including recent criticisms from religious leaders, and instead focus on the positive strides made by the government.
Among the prominent leaders voicing their support is Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, who emphasized the need to look at the good happening in Kenya. Murkomen, speaking at a public forum, acknowledged the difficulties faced by the country, especially in the economic sector, but firmly stated that the situation is steadily improving due to the reforms and policies implemented by President Ruto. He specifically pointed out the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy and reduce the cost of living.
“There are a lot of good things going on in our country. I know that there are challenges that we have as a nation, but I want to request our religious leaders, it is always good to look at the positives because if you feed your people negativity all the time, there will be no motivation to work,” Murkomen said, calling on the clergy to offer more support and encouragement rather than focusing on the negatives.
The Sports Cabinet Secretary further acknowledged that President Ruto inherited a country grappling with severe economic difficulties. However, he believes that the President’s administration has made notable progress in the last two years, including reducing the prices of essential goods like unga (maize flour) and fuel. Murkomen also pointed out the remarkable achievement of reducing Kenya’s reliance on imported sugar by boosting local production, a clear indicator of the country’s growing self-sufficiency.
Murkomen’s message was echoed by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who argued that President Ruto should be given the necessary time and space to fulfill his promises to the Kenyan people. Cherargei noted that the economic situation was dire when President Ruto assumed office, and substantial progress has been made in turning things around. He urged Kenyans to be patient as the government continues its work toward improving the economy and the country’s overall development.
“Tafadhali tusaidie rais. Wakati Rais William Ruto alichukua usukani, uchumi ilikuwa mbaya sana. Naomba tumpe nafasi rais aweze kuhakikisha yale maendeleo amepanga yametimia kwa sababu uchumi imebadilika,” Cherargei remarked, stressing the importance of allowing President Ruto the time to complete his agenda.
Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap also voiced his disappointment over the criticisms from religious leaders, particularly the Catholic Bishops. He pointed out that instead of criticizing, the Bishops should be praying for the country’s success. Makilap was clear in stating that the President has been doing everything possible to ensure Kenya’s success, particularly through economic reforms that have already shown tangible results.
“Tukiona Bishops wakipiga rais vita tunashangaa. Bishops kazi yao ni kuombea serikali. Wakiwa wagomvi nani atakuwa anaombea serikali na wananchi,” said Makilap, urging the clergy to focus on praying for the success of the government.
The MP highlighted several significant achievements in President Ruto’s administration, particularly the turnaround of state-owned corporations that had previously been running at a loss. According to Makilap, institutions such as KenGen, Kenya Power, Kenya Airways, and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are now showing profits, a clear indicator that the country is heading in the right direction.
“Nawaomba Bishops muombee taifa hili. Hii Kenya tutakwamua. President William Ruto anafanya kazi. Leo mashirika kama KenGen, Kenya Power, Kenya Airways, KPA yameanza kupata faida. Kama kuna faida inamaanisha Kenya inasonga mbele na haturudi nyuma,” Makilap said, calling for unity and faith in the country’s leadership.
While the criticisms from the Catholic Bishops reflect a broader dissatisfaction among some sections of society, political leaders from the Rift Valley region continue to rally behind the President, urging the country to focus on the positive impacts of his administration’s reforms. With the next general election years away, they believe the government’s focus on economic recovery and long-term growth will yield significant results for the people of Kenya.
As Kenya moves forward, the political leaders from Rift Valley remain adamant that the country is making progress, urging Kenyans to support President Ruto and his government as they work to transform the nation. Their message is clear: the future is bright, and the country is on the right track.
