Robinson Asenwa, the forward for Nairobi City Stars, has set ambitious goals for himself following a highly successful debut season in the Kenyan Premier League. Transitioning from the third-tier side Vapor Sports to the top tier, Asenwa showcased his talent and versatility, making an impactful mark on his team and the league.
Asenwa’s journey to the Premier League saw him feature in 29 out of 34 games, clocking an impressive 1,788 minutes on the pitch. Reflecting on his season, Asenwa expressed gratitude to his team and coaches for the opportunity and trust they placed in him. “I want to thank God and the team for giving me the opportunity and trusting in me. Last season was a learning curve as a new player in the league,” he said.
Gratitude was a significant theme in Asenwa’s reflections. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by his coaches and teammates in his performance. “I also thank the coaches for giving me the chance to feature for the team and I attribute the performance that I had to them, alongside my teammates,” Asenwa added.
His debut came on Match Day Three against Gor Mahia at Moi Stadium, Kasarani, and he quickly found his footing in the league. Scoring his first goal against Murang’a Seal on Match Day Nine, Asenwa went on to net goals against AFC Leopards, Bandari, and FC Talanta. By the end of the season, he had tallied four goals, six assists, and three progressive passes.
Despite these achievements, Asenwa is not resting on his laurels. “I am more ambitious heading to next season. I learned valuable lessons. I have goals to achieve, mostly personal targets, but all geared towards elevating the team to achieve its objectives,” he stated.
One of the standout features of Asenwa’s gameplay is his versatility. He scored each of his four goals from four different positions upfront: playing on either flank, as a point man, and as an attacking midfielder. “My dynamism will help me top up on that figure,” he said confidently.
Asenwa’s impressive performances did not go unnoticed, earning him the Most Valuable Player award twice—once against Tusker in the first leg and again against Bidco United in the second leg.
Looking forward, Robinson Asenwa’s ambitions and versatility signal a promising future for both himself and Nairobi City Stars. As he continues to develop and refine his skills, fans and teammates alike can look forward to more dynamic and impactful performances in the upcoming season.
