Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick, is set to visit Kenya on Sunday, January 12, 2025, as part of her African Magic Tour. The tour, which will take her across five African nations, including Senegal, Tunisia, and Egypt, marks an important milestone for Rotary District 9212, which spans Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Eritrea.
During her visit, President Urchick will engage with various community development projects that Rotary has supported in the region. A highlight of her visit will be the announcement of a flagship project to improve maternal and child health at Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi. This project will serve as a national pilot as Rotary District 9212 celebrates its 100th year of service in Africa. Governor Joe Kamau of Rotary District 9212 emphasized the significance of this milestone, alongside Rotary’s ongoing support for impactful projects aimed at benefiting thousands of Kenyan families.
Rotary District 9212 is currently managing grants worth $6 million (approximately KSh 774 million) across its member countries. These funds have been allocated to various humanitarian and health projects, including medical camps, which will take place at Pumwani Maternity Hospital, Kogelo Health Centre, and several other locations across Kenya. These camps are the result of a 24-month partnership between Rotary District 9212 and the Rotary Action Group for Family Health & AIDS Prevention Inc (RFHA), aimed at improving family health across the country.
On Monday, January 13, 2025, President Urchick will meet with senior Kenyan government officials and participate in the medical camp at Pumwani. Additionally, she is expected to enjoy Kenya’s renowned tourism attractions, including a game drive at Nairobi National Park and a visit to the Giraffe Centre.
Rotary’s efforts in Kenya include various programs in ICT, maternal and child health, blood donation campaigns, tree planting, and more. These projects are integral to Rotary’s ongoing mission to address critical issues such as disease prevention, education, economic development, and environmental conservation.
