President William Ruto has returned to Kenya after attending the African Union (AU) Agriculture Summit held in Uganda. The summit brought together several heads of state and government from across the continent to discuss critical issues surrounding agriculture and food security.
At the heart of the discussions was the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), a pivotal AU Agenda 2063 initiative. The program’s goal is to eliminate hunger and poverty through agriculture-driven development, with an emphasis on transforming Africa’s agri-food systems. The summit underscored the urgency of strengthening agricultural policies and enhancing resilience in food production to ensure that Africa can feed its growing population sustainably.
During his address, President Ruto highlighted the importance of African nations working together to build resilient food systems. He stressed that such collaboration is essential to addressing the continent’s persistent food insecurity challenges. By improving agricultural infrastructure, investing in technology, and fostering innovation, Africa can increase food production and reduce dependency on imports.
Ruto also reiterated Kenya’s commitment to supporting agricultural development, noting that food security remains a priority for his administration. He emphasized that, with concerted effort, Africa could achieve food self-sufficiency, create jobs, and enhance livelihoods for millions across the continent. The summit concluded with a renewed call for stronger regional partnerships to advance sustainable agriculture across Africa.
