President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to disregard the negative sentiments about his administration circulating on social media, emphasizing that his government is delivering on its promises. Speaking during the second day of his tour in Uasin Gishu County, Ruto said Kenya’s current state is an improvement compared to when he assumed office in September 2022.
“I want to assure you that Kenya is changing for the better. The work you entrusted to us is progressing rapidly. Ignore those on social media spreading lies and engaging in gossip,” Ruto stated while addressing residents of Kesses.
He urged Kenyans not to be swayed by online negativity, asserting that critics lack alternative solutions for the country’s challenges. “Do not be swayed by gossip, rumours, and the lies propagated by individuals on social media who have no alternative plans or viable solutions for our country,” he added.
Ruto highlighted the progress made in stabilizing the economy despite the criticism. He noted that inflation has decreased, and the Kenyan shilling has shown signs of improvement compared to the economic challenges faced at the beginning of his tenure.
“We faced economic challenges. The value of the dollar had risen, but now it is depreciating; inflation was high, and we have managed to lower it. However, there are those who spread falsehoods,” he said.
Leaders accompanying Ruto, including Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Cabinet Secretaries Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Salim Mvurya (Sports), defended the president, pointing to his efforts in reviving the economy. Mvurya highlighted the difficult conditions under which Ruto assumed leadership, including high debt and economic instability.
“Madaraka ulipata wakati mgumu. Lakini sasa uchumi unaimarika,” Mvurya said.
Ichung’wah vowed to confront critics: “Leave the noise-makers to me. I’ll deal with them.”
Ruto assured citizens that his administration remains committed to development, urging them to focus on the government’s progress rather than distractions on social media.
