President William Ruto’s Cabinet Secretaries have made a series of new appointments to key state agencies, signaling a wave of changes in government institutions. However, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stood out by revoking a notable appointment.
In a Gazette Notice dated January 31, 2025, CS Ogamba revoked the appointment of Bob Ndubi as a member of the Kisii University Council. The revocation was done under the powers conferred by the Universities Act, 2012, and Section 51(1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Universities Act, 2012, as read together with Section 51(1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education revokes the appointment of Bob Ndubi as a member of the Kisii University Council, with effect from January 31, 2025,” the notice read.
While Ogamba was reversing a prior decision, other Cabinet Secretaries were busy making new appointments. Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) CS Wycliffe Oparanya appointed Martha Wanjiru Miano as a member of the Board of Directors of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority for a three-year term. Simultaneously, he revoked the appointment of Adan Sheikh Abdullahi.
In the health sector, CS Deborah Mulongo made a new appointment to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital Board. Leonard Sang has been appointed as a board member for a three-year term, effective January 31, 2025.
Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano appointed Nancy Waturi Mathenge to the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Alongside this appointment, she revoked the positions of Peter Fredrick Moll and Edward Norton.
Water CS Eric Mugaa also made changes in his sector by appointing Nicholas Wambua Muthangya as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency for a three-year term, effective January 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, Defence CS Roselinda Tuya appointed new members to the Kenya Defence Forces Pension Appeals Committee. The appointed individuals include Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego, Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, and Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai. Additionally, Elly Ongei was appointed as the Secretary to the Kenya Defence Forces Pension Appeals Committee for a three-year term.
The latest appointments reflect the government’s strategy in reshaping leadership across various sectors, ensuring alignment with its administrative objectives. As these new officials take office, their impact on governance and institutional performance will be closely monitored.
