Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has launched an initiative aimed at improving service delivery by establishing devolved service centres across the city. These centres are designed to bring county services closer to residents, reducing the need for long commutes to the Central Business District (CBD).
Revenue Chief Officer Tiras Njoroge, confirming the development, emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Sakaja’s vision of improving accessibility to essential services.
“These centres are designed to bring county services closer to the people. Governor Sakaja’s vision is to ensure Nairobians can access essential services nearer to their homes,” Njoroge stated.
Currently, three centres are operational: the City Hall customer service centre and newly launched facilities in Dandora and Makadara. These centres are strategically located to serve residents more efficiently, particularly in Eastlands.
“Dandora has seven service counters, while Makadara boasts eight. Each centre is supported by a dedicated team to ensure seamless operations,” Njoroge added.
The service centres offer a wide range of county services, including payments for land rates, Unified Business Permits, seasonal parking, house rent, and other county levies. Additionally, payments can be made online through the county’s portal, www.nairobiservices.go.ke.
To bolster efficiency, the county government recently recruited over 40 revenue clerks through a competitive hiring process. The clerks underwent intensive training to ensure they deliver high-quality services at the centres.
“The recruitment is critical to achieving the county’s ambitious revenue target of Sh20 billion for the financial year ending June 2025. Last year, Nairobi collected Sh12.8 billion, the highest since devolution. This year, we are confident of surpassing this record,” Njoroge said.
He urged residents to embrace the service centres as an alternative to the congested CBD.
“These centres will help us meet service needs efficiently and professionally,” Njoroge assured.
The initiative signals Sakaja’s commitment to improving county operations and ensuring Nairobians enjoy better, faster access to essential services.
