A senior police officer with a history of misconduct has once again found himself on the wrong side of the law. Inspector Guyo Dida, the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (D-OCS) at Mavindini Police Station in Kathozweni Sub-County, was arrested on Tuesday morning at the Globe Roundabout in Nairobi. He faces charges of corruption, unauthorized deployment, and assault.
The incident began when a motorist, Najma Ali Magongo, reported to Central Police Station that Inspector Dida had unlawfully detained her and extorted Ksh. 15,000. According to Magongo, the officer accused her of obstructing traffic, entered her vehicle without permission, and refused to leave until she paid the bribe.
The situation escalated when a Good Samaritan alerted Inspector Ambrose Kivuva, the Duty Officer at Central Police Station. Inspector Kivuva intercepted the vehicle and confronted Inspector Dida. During the altercation, Dida reportedly assaulted Kivuva, slapping him twice and tearing his uniform. Additional officers and bystanders intervened to subdue and arrest him.
Police investigations revealed that Dida was not authorized to be on duty at the Globe Roundabout and had self-deployed. This incident is not an isolated case; Inspector Dida has a record of similar misconduct.
On October 23, 2024, Dida was arrested at Bunyala Roundabout in Makadara Sub-County while on leave from his station. He was conducting unauthorized traffic duties in full Persian blue uniform and was found in possession of a communication device belonging to the Tourist Police Unit. Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Kathozweni Sub-County Police Commander and detained at Makueni Police Station for disciplinary action.
Inspector Dida’s repeated violations of police protocol and alleged acts of corruption have raised serious concerns about discipline and accountability within the police force. His latest arrest underscores the need for stricter oversight and swift action to address misconduct, ensuring public trust in law enforcement remains intact.
Investigations into the latest incident are ongoing, with authorities promising a thorough review of Inspector Dida’s actions and appropriate disciplinary measures.
