The SEZ Authority provided an in-depth presentation on the available land and various investment opportunities within the Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
According to a statement by the SEZ Authority, the tour included a visit to the power station, highlighting the significant cost benefits for businesses due to reduced power tariffs within the zone.
Earlier this year, the government introduced a lower electricity tariff of 5 shillings per kilowatt, aiming to attract investments to the Special Economic Zone in Naivasha.
Additionally, the Authority mentioned that investors visited the Inland Container Depot (ICD) and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), where they participated in an interactive session with the Kenya Railways Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and Kenya Revenue Authority.
“We showcased the excellent logistical infrastructure by visiting the Inland Container Depot (ICD) and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). An interactive session with the Kenya Railways Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and Kenya Revenue Authority was held to provide investors with insights into the seamless cargo operations at the ICD,” stated the Authority.
During the site visit, Thomas Yongo, the Acting Regional Operations Officer for the Kenya Railways Corporation, assured investors that the corporation would provide comprehensive services, including extending the railway tracks to the investors’ premises.
“With the ongoing developments at this site, we plan to link the railway with the SEZ so that incoming goods can go directly to the intended premises without being offloaded,” Yongo explained.
The visit concluded at the operational Jumbo AAA SEZ, showcasing the variety of businesses thriving in the Naivasha SEZ.
The Naivasha SEZ spans 1000 acres in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, along the Nairobi-Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line.
The SEZ is set to offer advanced trans-shipment facilities, enabling seamless interchange between the SGR and Meter Gauge Railways (MGR) to manage cargo destined for the East African Community (EAC) and Central African countries.
The SEZ includes an internal container depot, a logistics zone, a railway marshalling area, and industrial parks.
