Shabana FC Sets Ambitious Goals for the 2024/25 Kenyan Premier League Season

As the new Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season approaches, Shabana FC’s Head Coach, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, is setting high expectations for his team. Pamzo, a revered figure in Kenyan football with a notable history as an ex-Kenyan international and former Gor Mahia coach, is determined to see Shabana FC start the 2024/25 season on a high note. Their opening fixture against Bidco United this weekend marks the beginning of what Pamzo hopes will be a significantly improved campaign compared to last season.

Shabana FC’s performance in the previous season was a rollercoaster, culminating in a dramatic escape from relegation. The team finished 14th with 38 points, barely managing to stave off the drop. With this in mind, Pamzo’s focus for the new season is clear: to build on last season’s progress and push for a top-eight finish. The coach is optimistic, citing the preparation his squad has undergone as a key factor in their readiness for the season opener.

“We have attained about 60 percent of our preparedness for the Bidco game. It is the team we beat in our second-last match last season, which gives us confidence of getting three points against them again,” Pamzo stated. His confidence is well-placed, considering Shabana’s strong performance in their final match of the previous season against Murang’a SEAL. Pamzo believes that the foundation laid during that game will be crucial for their upcoming matches.

Despite the optimism, Pamzo acknowledges that Bidco United, led by coach Athony Akhulia, will not be an easy opponent. Bidco defeated Shabana in their first encounter last season, a result that Pamzo remembers well. “I also reckon that they beat us in the first leg before I joined the team, so we also have respect for them and we know they will stage a good challenge. We are however looking forward to a bright start,” he added.

To strengthen his squad for the new season, Pamzo has overseen several key signings. Elvis Osok and Titus Achesa from Posta Rangers, Clifff Nyakeya and Maxwell Mulili from AFC Leopards, Atariza Meja from Bandari FC, and Mark Ochieng from Murang’a SEAL are expected to make significant contributions. These new additions are seen as vital in Shabana’s quest to enhance their performance and secure a higher league position.

However, the team may face some challenges right from the start. Injuries to key players Christopher Raila and Mathew Tegisi could impact Shabana’s lineup against Bidco United. Pamzo remains hopeful that his squad’s depth will compensate for their absences and allow the team to achieve a positive result.

Looking beyond the immediate fixtures, Shabana FC is also preparing for a more stable home ground advantage. The team is eagerly anticipating the completion of renovations at the Gusii Stadium, which is expected to be ready soon. As of the latest updates, the renovations are 90 percent complete, according to the Kisii County Government. Playing at a fully renovated Gusii Stadium is expected to provide Shabana with a significant boost, both in terms of morale and fan support.

In conclusion, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s Shabana FC is gearing up for a promising 2024/25 Kenyan Premier League season with high ambitions and a well-prepared squad. While challenges remain, particularly with injuries and a tough opening fixture, the club’s new signings and ongoing improvements to their home ground offer hope for a successful campaign. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Shabana can translate their preparations into a strong start and a top-eight finish by the end of the season.
