Tragic incidents of violence have rocked Siaya and Homa Bay counties in recent days, with two men losing their lives under violent circumstances. The events have left local communities in shock, prompting investigations by the police to establish the motives behind the killings.
In Ugenya, Siaya County, a 25-year-old man was shot dead by police after he threatened to kill his parents and siblings. The man, armed with a machete, had reportedly chased his family members out of their home in Ujwanga village on the night of Wednesday, January 29. According to the police, after being alerted to the situation, officers rushed to the scene where they found the man seated on a sofa inside the house.
When the man noticed the officers’ presence, he allegedly stood up and approached them, still brandishing the panga. Fearing for their safety, one of the officers was forced to shoot the man. He was immediately rushed to Ambira Sub County Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police recovered the machete, the weapon used in the shooting, along with two spent cartridges, which have been kept as exhibits as part of the investigation.
While the police probe into the incident continues, questions remain about the underlying cause of the man’s violent actions. Authorities are working to uncover what led to the tragic confrontation that resulted in the man’s death.
Meanwhile, in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County, another grim incident has surfaced, this time involving a 43-year-old man, Joseph Othim Amora, whose body was discovered in Kolondo village under horrifying circumstances. His belly had been slit open, exposing his intestines. The gruesome discovery was made on the morning of Thursday, January 30, after the man was attacked by unknown assailants during a raid on his home the previous night.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was premeditated, although the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Police are currently conducting investigations into the killing, and a team of detectives has been deployed to the area to track down the perpetrators. The rising rate of murders in the region has alarmed residents, prompting calls for more security in the area.
Both cases serve as stark reminders of the prevalence of violent crimes in the region, with local authorities working to bring the culprits to justice and provide answers to grieving families.
