Six million school-aged children in 16 counties are poised to benefit from the upcoming 12th round of the National School-Based Deworming Campaign, scheduled for launch this Thursday. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Evidence Action, aims to combat parasitic worm infections prevalent in high-risk areas.
Targeted counties such as Kirinyaga, Homa Bay, Kisii, and others have been selected based on their elevated rates of parasitic worm infections, which can adversely affect children’s health and academic performance. The campaign seeks to enhance children’s overall well-being by addressing these health challenges, thereby creating a conducive environment for learning and development.
The Ministry of Health underscores the campaign’s significance in mitigating malnutrition, cognitive impairment, and other health issues associated with parasitic worm infections. By integrating health and education efforts, the initiative aims to foster a healthier future generation capable of achieving their academic potential.
The collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and Evidence Action underscores a commitment to comprehensive child welfare, ensuring the smooth implementation and success of the deworming campaign. With preparations underway to mobilize resources and personnel, stakeholders are optimistic about building on previous successes to further improve public health and educational outcomes in these targeted regions.
