Southern Kenya ASK Show in Kisii Gears Up to Promote Climate-Smart Agriculture and Economic Growth

Preparations are well underway for this year’s Southern Kenya Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show at the Kisii Town showgrounds. Scheduled from July 11 to July 14, 2024, the show’s theme, ‘Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,’ aims to highlight innovative agricultural practices.

Mr. Kefa Onduso, Chairman of Southern Kenya ASK, announced the collaboration with exhibitors spanning Agriculture, Education, Manufacturing, and Small and Medium Enterprises. He emphasized the show’s role in showcasing new technologies and innovations essential for combating climate change.

Membership fees for the show vary, with executive members paying Sh8500, full members Sh3000, single or KPO members Sh2000, military members Sh800, and young farmers Sh400.

Highlighting the event’s diversity, Onduso promised attendees not only exhibitions but also entertainment including Military Mass band displays, Musical and Theatrical Performances, an Amusement Park, and fireworks.

Among the exhibitors, Rael Obara from the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) in Kisii invited residents to learn about fingerling production and fish feed techniques. Peterson Arao, Unit Manager of Ogembo Tea Factory, shared plans to showcase new tea farming and production methods.

The Southern Kenya ASK show expects exhibitors from Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay, and the lower regions of Kericho, Bomet, and Narok Counties.
