National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has emphasized the importance of education as a transformative tool for young people, urging them to prioritize their studies despite the challenges they may face. Speaking at his office while hosting Ms. Claire Jumma, a remarkable graduate who transitioned from working as a security guard to earning a degree, the Speaker lauded her resilience and determination as a model for others to emulate.
Wetang’ula acknowledged the struggles many young people encounter, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. However, he underscored that education is the most reliable path to securing a better future. “I am aware of the challenges, but do not relent,” he told the youth, adding that Claire’s story exemplifies how perseverance and vision can overcome obstacles.
Claire Jumma, a graduate of Kibabii University with a degree in Education, visited the Speaker’s office in the company of her area Member of Parliament, John Chikati. Reflecting on her journey from serving as a security guard equivalent to a male watchman to becoming a graduate, Speaker Wetangula described Claire’s accomplishment as proof that “no human is limited.”
“Claire’s journey is a testament that anybody can achieve their goals with determination and a clear vision,” he said. “I congratulate her for her resolve, efforts, commitment, and determination to create a better tomorrow for herself.”
Wetang’ula highlighted education as a powerful equalizer, calling it “the gate opener, the light for the future, and the empowerment tool young people need to unlock their potential and change their lives.” He urged young people to emulate Claire’s determination and take advantage of every opportunity to further their education.
Hon. Chikati praised Claire’s achievements, noting that she had defied all odds to secure a brighter future. He revealed that she had already secured a teaching position at a local school while awaiting her Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number for formal employment.
“Claire’s life-changing testimony reflects the power of education to transform lives,” Chikati remarked. “I am proud to have supported her as she prepares to embark on a teaching career.”
The Speaker commended MP Chikati for his supportive role, stressing the importance of mentorship and community support in nurturing talent and ambition. He further encouraged Claire to remain steadfast in her pursuit of excellence as she navigates the job market, assuring her that her degree would make her competitive and well-prepared for future opportunities.
Wetang’ula used Claire’s example to inspire others, particularly those whose educational paths have been interrupted by circumstances. He urged young people to remain hopeful and proactive, even if it means taking up menial jobs to sustain their dreams.
“Claire’s journey shows that with zeal and determination, even the most humble beginnings can lead to great achievements,” he stated.
In conclusion, Speaker Wetang’ula reiterated his belief in education as a cornerstone of societal development. He called on stakeholders to create supportive environments where young people can thrive academically and professionally, regardless of their backgrounds.
“Education is not just a personal achievement; it is a tool to uplift entire communities and nations,” he said. “Let Claire’s story remind us all of the transformative power of knowledge and the resilience of the human spirit.”
Claire’s inspiring journey, punctuated by hard work and an unyielding commitment to success, underscores the Speaker’s message: education remains the most vital asset for young people to secure their futures and contribute to society.
