Former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole is set to arrive in Nairobi, Kenya, on March 14, 2025, for a two-day visit that includes a football clinic and a watchalong event for the highly anticipated Premier League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea.
Cole, who retired from professional football in August 2019 to pursue a coaching career, shared details of his visit in a video, expressing his excitement about meeting fans in Kenya.
“I am super excited to announce that on the 15th and 16th of March, I will be over in Nairobi for the big watchalong between Arsenal and Chelsea,” Cole stated. “Thank you to the guys from African Culture Enterprise. I will also be hosting a football clinic. I can’t wait to meet you and see you.”
Widely regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in football history, Cole enjoyed a highly decorated playing career. He began his professional journey at Arsenal, where he won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups. He was an integral member of the famous “Invincibles” squad that went unbeaten during the 2003-04 Premier League season.
During his time at Arsenal, Cole also played in the club’s first UEFA Champions League final in 2006, where they narrowly lost to Barcelona. Following a high-profile transfer to Chelsea that same year, he continued to enjoy significant success.
At Stamford Bridge, Cole added another Premier League title to his name, along with four FA Cups, a Football League Cup, and the prestigious UEFA Champions League trophy in 2012. His seven FA Cup victories make him the most successful player in the competition’s history.
On the international stage, Cole earned 107 caps for England between 2001 and 2014, featuring in three FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. He was named England Player of the Year in 2010 and remains the nation’s most-capped full-back.
After hanging up his boots, Cole transitioned into coaching, starting as a youth coach at Derby County under former teammate Frank Lampard. He later joined Chelsea’s academy before moving to Everton in 2022 as part of Lampard’s coaching staff.
In 2023, Cole became part of England’s U21 coaching team, playing a key role in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship triumph. He has since remained involved in youth development and coaching within the England setup.
His visit to Kenya presents an exciting opportunity for local football fans and aspiring young players to learn from one of the game’s finest defenders. The football clinic he will be conducting aims to provide valuable training and mentorship, reinforcing his commitment to developing the next generation of talent.
Additionally, the watchalong event for the Arsenal vs. Chelsea match on March 16 is expected to draw passionate fans eager to engage with the former star as he shares insights on his two former clubs.
Cole’s visit underscores the growing influence of football culture in Africa, with more global icons recognizing the continent’s enthusiasm and talent for the sport.
