The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced the launch of its 2025 Jersey Design Competition, inviting creatives and designers to participate in the competition, which will run from April 1 to April 15, 2025. This competition provides an exciting opportunity for Kenyan designers to contribute to the national football team’s journey, with the winning design set to be featured on the national team’s jerseys for international competitions.
FKF has outlined that the base design colours for the jerseys should incorporate the national flag’s colours: black, white, red, and green. These colours are deeply significant to Kenya, representing the country’s history, culture, and identity. The competition encourages designers to explore the national or cultural elements that resonate with the spirit of Kenya while keeping the design in line with the flag’s colours.
To maintain fairness, the competition allows each candidate to submit only one design. Any attempts at canvassing or submitting “confidential” entries will result in automatic disqualification. Participants must provide a brief description explaining the elements incorporated in their design and their relevance to both football and Kenyan culture. This description is crucial, as it will help judges understand the design’s story and its connection to the country’s identity.
Candidates must also ensure that their submission is an original piece of work. The design cannot have been submitted to any other entity or competition previously. Entries can be submitted in two formats: either as a painting or illustration or as a mockup of the design applied to a jersey.
The competition is open to all Kenyans aged 18 to 35 years, ensuring that young creatives have the chance to showcase their skills and contribute to the national football team’s image. Once the submission deadline passes, an independent committee will be established by FKF to review all the entries and select the top three designs.
The overall winner of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of KSh 150,000, while the runner-up will receive KSh 100,000, and the second runner-up will be given KSh 50,000. These prizes are meant to not only reward the talent of the winners but also to encourage creativity and innovation in design.
For those whose designs are not selected, they will retain full rights over their concepts and designs. However, the winning entrants will be required to sign an agreement to transfer all copyrights and intellectual property rights in the designs to FKF. Additionally, the winners will waive any claims to royalties or revenue generated from the use of their designs.
FKF is excited to see the creativity and passion that Kenyan designers will bring to the competition, as the chosen design will represent the nation on an international stage, uniting Kenyans and showcasing their cultural heritage through the power of football.
