A Georgia man has been sentenced for bombing a woman’s house and plotting to use a large python to kill her child.
In November, the 38-year-old man pleaded guilty to one count each of using an explosive to commit another felony and stalking. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for each count. The court ordered his sentences to run concurrently.
Authorities condemned the extreme level of violence in the case, noting the sheer brutality of the crimes committed. Fortunately, no lives were lost despite the severity of the attack.
The convicted man and another individual allegedly conspired in a detailed plan against a woman he had briefly known. Their alleged scheme included multiple sadistic methods of harming the woman, ranging from mailing dog feces and dead rats to her home to shooting arrows into her front door, scalping her, and ultimately bombing her house. One particularly horrifying aspect of the plan was the idea of releasing a large python into her home to kill and eat her daughter.
These allegations were all admitted to in the guilty plea. Meanwhile, the second suspect still awaits further legal proceedings for his alleged role in the conspiracy.
According to court testimony, the convicted man initially met the victim through an online dating app. Their brief relationship ended quickly, leading to both parties blocking each other. After this, his roommate at the time allegedly became involved and helped him orchestrate the violent acts of retaliation.
Their plans and discussions were largely carried out over cell phones, with the two men communicating extensively to strategize ways to harm, intimidate, and terrorize the woman.
On the morning of January 13, 2023, the men allegedly traveled to the victim’s home in Richmond Hill, a city just south of Savannah. There, they reportedly built an explosive device using Tannerite and other materials before detonating it to destroy the residence.
Investigators later revealed that the convicted man had located the woman’s home by conducting internet searches based on an image she had previously shared with him. Following the explosion, he attempted to cover his tracks by hiring a cleaning service to remove bomb-making residue from the carpets of his own residence.
At the time of the attack, both the woman and her daughter were inside the house. Miraculously, they managed to escape unharmed despite the destruction.
Law enforcement officials have emphasized that this case serves as a powerful warning to those who seek to use violence and threats as a means of control and intimidation. Authorities are relieved that no lives were lost in what could have been a devastating tragedy.
