An experienced Kenyan goalkeeper has been implicated in match-fixing allegations after a video surfaced online, capturing him in a discussion with a man attempting to manipulate a match.
The goalkeeper has faced multiple accusations in the past regarding match manipulation, especially after conceding seemingly avoidable goals and making basic errors for both the national team and his club. While there had been no concrete evidence before, the latest video appears to provide proof of suspicious activities.
The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the goalkeeper seated in a car while the other man gives him instructions and makes promises regarding the arrangement. The conversation suggests that the two have engaged in such dealings before.
“I repeat again before the boss, this is the first deal,” the man says while the goalkeeper nods in agreement.
“You know how we have done this, I have never let you down, you have never let me down,” the man adds, implying a history of similar transactions.
“With you, zero failure, right?” the man asks, to which the goalkeeper responds affirmatively.
The man then continues explaining the details of the arrangement. “Whatever will be given to me, straight I forward to you. Immediately I forward to you, I will give you a phone call, and the boss will confirm you have received, then the deal is on,” he says.
At one point, he becomes more specific about the expectations. “That first half, bro, what we want must come,” he states, and the player appears to agree.
The timing and location of the video remain unclear, as does the match at the center of the controversy. However, the emergence of the footage places the goalkeeper in a challenging position, casting doubt on his integrity.
The player recently left his former club to join another team, having previously faced criticism for his performances, including costly mistakes. His displays in goal had already raised concerns, with some fans and analysts questioning his commitment.
During Kenya’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon last October, he conceded two soft goals as the team suffered a 4-1 defeat, which significantly hurt their qualification chances. Following that error-filled performance, he lost his place in the national team and has since struggled to regain it.
With this latest controversy, his future in football appears uncertain as authorities and football stakeholders may investigate the claims further. Match-fixing remains a serious issue in global football, with harsh penalties for those found guilty. The goalkeeper now faces increased scrutiny as the video continues to circulate widely.
