Kevin De Bruyne’s future at Manchester City remains uncertain as his contract with the Premier League club is set to expire this summer. The Belgian midfielder has yet to engage in talks regarding a contract extension, raising speculation about his next move.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has distanced himself from contract discussions, stating that the decision rests entirely with De Bruyne and the club. Guardiola emphasized that his focus remains on the team’s ongoing competitions, including the Club World Cup, FA Cup, and the Premier League.
“It is between the club and Kevin and his agent. In the position that I am in, we are just concerned about the team and finishing the season in the best position possible,” Guardiola said. “We have to think about the best thing for the club with the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Club World Cup.”
Currently, Manchester City sits fifth in the Premier League standings with 48 points, while Liverpool leads with 70 points. As the season progresses, the club is considering offering De Bruyne a short-term contract for the Club World Cup, providing him additional time to make a decision about his long-term future.
De Bruyne himself has acknowledged that his focus is gradually shifting, making his next career move a significant one. He highlighted the importance of family and personal considerations in any decision he makes.
“Family is obviously an important factor in whatever happens. When you talk to people, you have to decide. It’s very hard to talk hypothetically because there are things you want as a family, as a person, as a project,” De Bruyne stated.
“But when I don’t know anything, there’s not a lot I can say. I know what the team can give me, there’s nothing really new that I can learn. Obviously, we’ll see what happens when the conversation starts.”
Despite his status as one of Manchester City’s best midfielders and a key figure in their dominance over the years, De Bruyne has struggled with form this season. The 34-year-old has missed several games due to injury, leading to questions about his future at the club. Whether he chooses to extend his stay or seek a new challenge elsewhere remains to be seen.
