Mary Moraa has embarked on an unexpected journey beyond the track as she prepares for the 2025 season. As she gears up for a tough year ahead, the reigning world 100m champion has turned to her faith and recently featured in a music video.
A devoted Seventh-Day Adventist, Moraa shared the news on social media, hinting at a possible move to join one of the country’s leading choirs. The Olympic 800m bronze medallist encouraged fans to support her new venture. In a video she posted, she is seen singing, dressed in a blue uniform, and beaming with joy.
Her participation in the music video has taken many by surprise, as it is rare for athletes to venture into such creative pursuits. However, she has always been vocal about her faith, making this transition seem like a natural extension of her beliefs.
“What a blessed Sabbath with something new and hot from Christ Followers Ministers choir that I am part of. Here is a sneak preview of ‘Nimesimama.’ Be blessed and subscribe to the song,” she captioned the video.
While this unexpected leap into music has caught attention, Moraa remains focused on her athletic career. She has yet to compete in the 2025 season but has been training rigorously, sharing glimpses of her workouts on social media. As the defending 800m world champion, all eyes will be on her at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September.
To retain her title, she will need to overcome fierce competition from some of the best middle-distance runners. Among her top rivals is reigning Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson. Additionally, strong contenders such as Lilian Odira, Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma, and former world champion Athing Mu are expected to challenge her dominance.
Moraa had a remarkable 2024 season, starting strong before securing a bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. She later broke Caster Semenya’s 600m world best and triumphed at the Diamond League final in Brussels. Her season concluded with a second-place finish at the women-only Athlos event, hosted by Alexis Ohanian.
As she continues preparing for the upcoming season, Moraa has been confirmed for the Prefontaine Classic, where she will face a star-studded 800m lineup, including Tsige Duguma and Keely Hodgkinson.
With a promising year ahead, her latest foray into music adds an intriguing new dimension to her already impressive career. Whether she continues pursuing music alongside athletics remains to be seen, but her passion and determination in both fields are evident.
