Nottingham Forest continued their push for a Champions League spot with a commanding 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town. Under their manager, the team has developed into one of the quickest and most efficient in transition, capable of launching swift attacks from turnovers.
The match showcased Forest’s fluid and unpredictable attacking play. Anthony Elanga played a key role, constantly shifting into pockets of space and ultimately scoring twice. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Neco Williams frequently switched positions on the left flank, further unsettling the opposition defense.
Morgan Gibbs-White, captaining the side, was a pivotal figure in midfield. He dictated the tempo, linking up with teammates and creating opportunities. His assist for Forest’s fourth goal marked his 40th Premier League goal involvement for the club, putting him just four shy of Ian Woan’s club record.
Early in the match, Gibbs-White combined with Elanga and Hudson-Odoi to win a corner that led to a Nicolás Domínguez opportunity. Shortly after, he set up Elliot Anderson for a shot that struck Chris Wood as the striker attempted to move out of the way.
Forest’s first shot on target came when Gibbs-White delivered a cross to Wood, who found himself well-positioned between Luke Woolfenden and Jacob Greaves. However, his header landed comfortably in the arms of Alex Palmer.
The visitors’ pressure paid off in the 35th minute when a defensive mix-up led to a corner that Ipswich failed to clear. Nikola Milenković reacted quickest, driving the ball into the roof of the net to give Forest a well-deserved lead. Just two minutes later, Elanga doubled the advantage, taking on Greaves before cutting inside and curling a left-footed effort into the far corner.
Forest’s dominance continued, and within minutes, Elanga struck again. Latching onto a long ball from Milenković, he used his head to control, gained a yard of space with his second touch, and confidently slotted the ball past Palmer with his third.
Ipswich, still without a win in 2025, managed two late consolation goals through Jens Cajuste and George Hirst. However, Jota Silva restored Forest’s three-goal cushion, sealing the outcome. Despite their late efforts, the home side’s shortcomings were evident. Nine points adrift of safety, their chances of survival in the top flight appear increasingly slim as the season nears its conclusion.
