Senegalese football star Sadio Mane has welcomed his first child with his wife, Aisha Tamba. The couple, who got married in a private ceremony in January 2024, recently celebrated the arrival of their baby girl.
Mane, who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, flew back to Senegal for the traditional naming ceremony, which was held on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The event, known as “bapteme” in Senegalese culture, took place at the home of Mane’s uncle and was attended by family members from both sides. Tamba’s parents were also present, with her mother dressed in a bright yellow outfit and her father in all white.
A video from the celebration showed family members clapping and dancing as they rejoiced in the newborn’s arrival. Mane’s uncle, Ibrahima Toure, led the ceremony, where the baby girl was given the name Animata.
Mane and Tamba’s marriage has been kept largely private since their wedding, which had drawn significant public attention due to their age difference. At the time of their union, Mane was 31 years old, while Tamba was 18. Despite the scrutiny, they have maintained a low profile, focusing on their family life.
The footballer had previously expressed his desire to have a large family, and now, just over a year after their wedding, they have taken their first step toward that goal. While few knew that Tamba was expecting, the birth of their daughter came as a pleasant surprise to fans and well-wishers.
After the naming ceremony, Mane quickly returned to Saudi Arabia to resume his football commitments. He played in Al-Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League the following day, where he marked the occasion by dedicating his goal to his newborn daughter.
The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward has had a stellar career, earning a reputation as one of Africa’s top footballers. His journey with Al-Nassr has continued to be successful, as he remains a key player for the club.
Mane and Tamba’s relationship reportedly began when she was 16. During this time, he supported her education, ensuring she completed her final years of schooling. Even after their wedding, Tamba continued her studies but left eight months ago to join her husband in Saudi Arabia.
With the birth of their daughter, the couple has entered a new chapter in their lives, balancing family and professional commitments. Despite his busy football schedule, Mane remains deeply connected to his roots, prioritizing family traditions and cultural heritage.
