Shabana FC’s leadership is optimistic that the club has overcome its struggles following a resounding 4-1 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday. The win at Gusii Stadium marked the team’s biggest triumph of the season and signaled a potential turnaround after a difficult run of form.
The club had endured a four-match winless streak in February, managing only two goals while drawing three games and losing one. Much of this slump was attributed to the departure of key striker Mathew Tegisi, who left for Tanzanian club Pamba Jiji FC in December. His exit left Brian Michira shouldering the team’s goalscoring responsibilities, a task made even harder by Vincent Nyabuto’s injury.
With the team struggling to find the back of the net, the technical bench identified midfield and attack as areas in need of reinforcements. This prompted Shabana to enter the midseason transfer market, securing the services of Keith Imbali, Douglas Mokaya, Moses Shikanda, Derrick Oketch, Oscar Juma, Duke Kurio, and Frank Mandela. Additionally, Nehemiah Onchiri returned from a loan spell, bolstering the squad further.
The impact of these new additions was evident even before the emphatic victory over Kakamega Homeboyz. In a previous match against Tusker FC, Keith Imbali announced his arrival with a goal, signaling the influence the signings were beginning to have on the team. The Homeboyz clash further demonstrated their importance, with Oscar Juma scoring twice and Imbali providing an assist.
Shabana’s leadership believes the team has finally stabilized and is ready for a strong second half of the season. With Nyabuto returning from injury and the new signings integrating well into the squad, the club is confident of climbing higher up the FKF Premier League table.
Shabana currently sits sixth with 33 points from 23 matches and is now setting its sights on a top-five finish. This would be a significant improvement from the previous campaign, where the club narrowly avoided relegation in the final weeks.
The team’s management remains committed to continued progress and believes that the investment in new players will yield long-term benefits. The recent results suggest that Shabana has turned a corner, and the club is determined to build on this momentum as the season progresses.
