NFL superstar Tyreek Hill has fired back at Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles after the sprinter took another shot at him following his recent victory at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.
Lyles, fresh off his win in the 60m sprint, used the moment to reignite his ongoing feud with Hill by sending a direct message to the Miami Dolphins receiver. The six-time world champion clocked an impressive 6.52 seconds, finishing ahead of the Bahamas’ Terrence Jones and Italy’s Marcell Jacobs. However, it wasn’t just the victory that caught everyone’s attention it was the statement he made afterward.
As he celebrated crossing the finish line, Lyles removed his bib to reveal a bold message: “Tyreek Could Never.” If that wasn’t enough, he doubled down in a post-race interview, challenging Hill to a race and making it clear that he was ready to settle the debate once and for all.
“When you’re ready to actually put some words down and you’re actually ready to race, see me. I’m right here. I ain’t going nowhere,” Lyles said. “But all I know is, your football season’s over. You ain’t got no excuse now.”
A Feud That Won’t Die
The rivalry between Lyles and Hill has been brewing since August 2023, when the track star initially called out the NFL speedster. Hill, widely regarded as one of the fastest players in the league, has often teased the idea of racing against professional sprinters but has never formally committed to an event against them.
Lyles, on the other hand, has repeatedly expressed confidence that he would dominate any such matchup. Given his resume multiple world championship titles and an Olympic gold medal he believes there’s no question about who the fastest man truly is.
Hill’s response to Lyles’ latest jab came swiftly. Taking to social media, he simply posted: “Get a load of this guy.”
While it was a short reply, it spoke volumes. Hill appeared unfazed by Lyles’ challenge and seemed to dismiss the sprinter’s attempts to bait him into a race.
How Fast Is Tyreek Hill?
There’s no doubt that Hill is an elite athlete with world-class speed. During his high school days, he was a standout track star, posting a 200m time of 20.14 seconds faster than Usain Bolt at the same age. More recently, in 2023, Hill competed in a 60m race at the USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships, where he clocked a time of 6.70 seconds.
For context, Lyles has run significantly faster in the 60m, with a personal best of 6.43 seconds set at the 2024 USATF Indoor Championships. That difference in time may seem small, but in sprinting, it’s a significant gap.
Even so, some believe Hill’s explosiveness on the football field could translate well to a short-distance race, making the idea of a matchup between the two a highly intriguing spectacle.
Will a Race Actually Happen?
Fans have been clamoring for a race between Lyles and Hill, and there’s no doubt that if it were to happen, it would generate massive attention. The question is whether Hill is actually interested in making it happen.
During the NFL season, Hill is focused on football, but with his team’s season now over, he theoretically has time to train and prepare for a showdown. However, racing against an Olympic champion on the track is an entirely different challenge compared to sprinting past defenders on the football field.
Lyles, for his part, seems eager to settle the debate once and for all. He has continuously challenged Hill to step up, and his latest post-race stunt shows he’s not backing down. The ball is now in Hill’s court.
Whether Hill will accept the challenge remains to be seen. But one thing is certain—the rivalry between these two elite speedsters isn’t going away anytime soon.
