Starehe Boys Centre Launches Ksh65M Fundraising Drive to Support Needy Students

As Starehe Boys Centre celebrates its 65th anniversary, the renowned institution has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign aimed at raising Ksh65 million for its endowment fund. The fund, driven by the Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust (GMET) and supported by the Starehe alumni, aims to secure 65 places for bright but needy students. This initiative seeks to ensure that these students can access the transformative and high-quality education for which Starehe Boys Centre has become synonymous.

Since its establishment, Starehe Boys Centre has been a beacon of hope for students from underprivileged backgrounds, offering them opportunities to excel academically and develop into future leaders. The endowment fund will not only support current and future students but also provide a steady financial foundation for the institution to continue its mission of empowering young minds through education, discipline, and community service for generations to come.

Speaking at a recent cheque presentation event during the school’s term reopening, Fred Okono, the School’s Director, expressed pride in the institution’s journey over the past six and a half decades. “We are immensely proud to celebrate 65 years of transforming lives at Starehe Boys Centre. Our journey has been marked by resilience, dedication, and a firm commitment to providing an inclusive and transformative education,” said Okono.

He further emphasized the importance of the endowment fund in securing the future of the institution. “As we celebrate this milestone, we are also focused on securing the future of Starehe by raising funds to support the education of bright but needy students. This endowment fund will help us continue our mission of shaping future leaders who embody the values of integrity, service, and excellence,” he added.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, along with various dignitaries, attended the cheque presentation, showcasing the collective effort to support the fundraising drive. The initiative is a significant part of the school’s long-term strategy to maintain its tradition of nurturing young talent, regardless of their economic background.

Justice Nzioki wa Makau, President of the Old Starehian Society, echoed the sentiments shared by the school’s Director, underscoring the alumni’s unwavering commitment to giving back to the institution that played a pivotal role in their development. “This contribution is a testament to our ongoing commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped us. We believe that supporting the endowment fund is a crucial step in ensuring that future generations of students have the same opportunities we had to learn, grow, and succeed at Starehe Boys Centre,” said Justice Makau.

The endowment fund represents more than just financial support; it symbolizes the enduring legacy of Starehe Boys Centre’s founders, Geoffrey Griffin, Geoffrey Geturo, and Joseph Kamiru, who envisioned an institution that would change the lives of needy students through education. Over the years, Starehe Boys Centre has upheld this legacy, producing outstanding alumni who have excelled in various fields, both locally and internationally.

The celebrations will also provide an opportunity for alumni, students, staff, and well-wishers to come together and celebrate the spirit of Starehe. From sports days to mentorship sessions and academic showcases, the activities will highlight the school’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

The fundraising campaign and anniversary celebrations come at a critical time when education institutions are facing financial challenges. By securing the future of Starehe Boys Centre through the endowment fund, the institution aims to continue providing access to quality education for deserving students, thus fulfilling its mission of transforming lives and shaping future leaders.

As Starehe Boys Centre embarks on this next chapter, the school community remains united in its goal to uphold the values of integrity, service, and excellence, ensuring that the institution continues to be a pillar of hope and opportunity for generations to come.
