Stevo Simple Boy, known for his hit song “Shega,” recently shared an insightful and humorous explanation of his viral catchphrase, “Dragon Moto Testing Waa,” during an appearance on TV47 on January 10, 2024. Hosted by Betty Kyallo, the musician discussed the origins of the nickname “Dragon,” which has since caught the attention of many fans and netizens.
The phrase ‘Dragon Moto Testing Waa’ has become a social media sensation, with many people finding it incredibly catchy. Stevo explained that the inspiration for the name “Dragon” came from his fascination with powerful animals such as lions, leopards, and elephants, commonly found in Tanzania. However, he wanted to create something unique. “I thought no one had called themselves Dragon before. So, I chose the name because of the things I do that are not ordinary and sometimes hard to understand,” Stevo said.
During the interview, Betty Kyallo also highlighted Stevo’s incredible transformation over the past year. From his musical style to his wardrobe, the artist has made noticeable changes. Stevo revealed that he sought out the help of stylists to revamp his look, which he admitted was sometimes confusing to him, but a necessary step to evolve. “I contacted a stylist because I wanted to see where I could go,” he said.
Apart from his fashion overhaul, Stevo also discussed his evolving music style. While his genre has sparked debate—some calling it Gengetone, others Arbantone—Stevo is still undecided about labeling his sound. “My music is causing confusion about what genre it belongs to, but I haven’t named my style yet,” he explained.
2024 has been a year of growth for Stevo, marked by several ventures across the country, including a memorable trip to Tanzania for the Bongo Star Search in December. Stevo humbly shared that although the judges praised his star status, his appearance was part of a paid engagement. “They asked me why I auditioned, but I was paid to make an appearance,” he revealed.
Stevo Simple Boy’s transformation continues to capture the attention of his fans, and with his unique style and music, he is set to keep making waves in the Kenyan entertainment scene.
