Suspect in Custody After Fatal Shooting and Police Chase on Atlanta Commuter Bus

A 39-year-old suspect is now in custody following a tragic sequence of events involving a metro Atlanta commuter bus, which led to a fatal shooting and a high-speed police chase during busy rush hour traffic.

The incident began with reports of gunfire aboard a commuter bus in downtown Atlanta around 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the Atlanta Police Department, upon arriving at the scene, officers attempted to intervene, prompting the bus to flee from the area.

A pursuit ensued, spanning across Interstate 85 and various surface streets, involving multiple jurisdictions. The chase reached critical points, including the bus driving into oncoming traffic, before it eventually came to a halt on the side of another street.

Authorities successfully apprehended the suspect “without further incident” after bringing the bus to a stop. Inside the bus, officers discovered an adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, as confirmed by police officials.
