Tabitha Kiragu and her team emerged victorious at the KCB East Africa Golf Tour event held at Ruiru Sports Club on November 16, 2024. The team, consisting of Kiragu, Peter Thuku, Joseph Kamiri, and Jacob Theuri, posted an impressive combined score of 104 points, securing the overall win. They triumphed over the team of Kimani Munyua, Catherine Kamene, Rose Kagio, and Michael Waititu, who finished as runners-up with 101 points. Both teams earned spots in the tour’s grand finale, which is scheduled for December 6 at Sigona Golf Club.
Kiragu expressed her pride in the victory, highlighting the challenging competition and weather conditions that her team had to navigate. Despite these obstacles, they showed resilience and teamwork. “It is an honor to win the last leg of the KCB Golf Series. Despite tough competition and less-than-ideal weather, we persevered. A big thank you to my four-ball for an amazing outing, we’re excited to represent Ruiru at the grand finale,” Kiragu said.
The event, which was part of the KCB Golf Series, saw 204 golfers participating, with various awards up for grabs. Among the top performers was Kamau Wangondu, a handicap 23 golfer, who earned the title of overall winner for the day. Wangondu carded an impressive 42 stableford points, making him the standout player. In the men’s category, Joseph Kamiri, playing off a handicap 18, finished with 40 points to secure the men’s winner award.
In the ladies’ category, Emmaculate Mbugua, with a handicap of 26, produced a solid performance, earning 40 stableford points to take home the top honors. For the juniors, Ryan Waithata, a rising star in the golf community who plays off a handicap 44, delivered an outstanding performance with 44 points, clinching the junior’s category title.
In addition to the main categories, the competition also recognized winners in other divisions. Anthony Muita, who plays off a handicap 10, scored 37 points to win the guest category. Allan Kirui, a handicap 22 golfer, returned 36 points to claim the staff winner award.
Among the special accolades of the day were the longest drive awards. Elly Limo, known for his powerful hitting, was recognized with the longest drive award in the men’s category, while Francisca Korir earned the longest drive award in the ladies’ category. Both players demonstrated exceptional skill and precision, making a significant impact during the event.
The atmosphere at Ruiru Sports Club was electric, with players eager to compete in this highly anticipated leg of the series. The venue’s challenging par 72 layout provided a tough test for golfers, but it also showcased their talent and determination.
As the event wrapped up, the winners were filled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming grand finale.
