Former Tanariver Governor Hussein Dado has expressed strong support for President William Ruto’s move to form a broad-based government, praising the initiative for fostering peace and unity in Kenya. This support comes amid ongoing discussions about land issues and political tensions in the region.
Speaking in Garsen constituency after attending several weddings in Kilelengwani and Garsen Town, Dado emphasized the importance of inclusivity in governance and called for a collective effort to maintain peace. While he welcomed the new entrants into the government, Dado reminded President Ruto not to forget those who supported him during the campaign.
Dado’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment among Tanariver leaders who are concerned about the potential for violence in their region. He urged residents to reject politicians who incite violence for personal gain, specifically highlighting the risk of such incitement stemming from land disputes in Tanariver.
“Tanariver has faced severe violence in the past,” Dado warned. “We cannot afford to revert to those dark days. Leaders with ulterior motives are attempting to exploit land issues to fuel ethnic conflict, but we must stand firm against these divisive tactics.”
Dado was joined by Tanariver Speaker Osman Galole, who echoed these sentiments. Galole stressed the emotional significance of land issues in Tanariver and called on leaders to stop using this sensitive topic to incite violence. He highlighted the need for a united front to advance the county’s development and to overcome past conflicts.
The Tanariver Speaker also addressed recent misinformation regarding the county assembly’s actions. There have been claims that the assembly approved a bill related to the cluster program initiated by Governor Dhadho Godhana. Galole clarified that the assembly had not passed such a bill. Instead, the assembly endorsed the informal settlement scheme program, which is funded by the World Bank. This program aims to upgrade existing settlement schemes and is a significant step towards improving living conditions in the region.
The informal settlement scheme is a part of broader efforts to address housing and infrastructure challenges in Tanariver. By focusing on upgrading existing settlements rather than creating new clusters, the program seeks to provide more sustainable and equitable solutions to the region’s development needs.
In his address, Galole emphasized the importance of moving forward from past grievances and focusing on positive development. He urged the community to work together and reject any attempts to create division or chaos.
Dado and Galole’s statements come at a critical time for Tanariver, a region that has previously experienced significant ethnic violence. Their calls for peace and unity are seen as crucial steps in maintaining stability and ensuring that political developments do not exacerbate existing tensions.
As Tanariver continues to navigate its complex socio-political landscape, the leadership’s focus on peace and inclusivity will be essential in shaping the region’s future. The support for President Ruto’s broad-based government is a sign of the local leaders’ commitment to a unified approach to governance, which they hope will lead to lasting peace and development in Tanariver.
The emphasis on rejecting divisive politics and focusing on collaborative development efforts reflects a growing recognition of the need for unity in addressing the region’s challenges. As the community and its leaders work towards these goals, the hope is that Tanariver will move forward from its troubled past and build a more prosperous and harmonious future.
