The National Food Storage Agency (NFRA) of Tanzania has signed a landmark $22 million agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to enhance food security and support local farmers. This partnership, announced by NFRA CEO Dr. Andrew Komba during a ceremony in Dodoma, involves the purchase and storage of 60,000 tons of maize using a sophisticated digital system.
Witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe (Mb), the agreement also includes collaboration with the Cereals and Mixed Crops Board (CPB) to establish additional shopping centers, facilitating easier access for farmers. This initiative aims to stabilize market prices and improve farmers’ incomes by ensuring a reliable market for their produce. WFP representative Mrs. Sarah Gordon-Gibson praised the long-standing cooperation with Tanzania, highlighting past successes in agricultural procurement. The event also saw attendance from key government and parliamentary figures, underscoring the significance of this strategic partnership.
