Global clean energy company BLUETTI has donated 1,000 solar power systems to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) as part of its ‘Lighting an African Family’ (LAAF) programme. This initiative aims to provide clean, renewable energy to off-grid communities, improving education, business opportunities, and overall quality of life.
Archie Yang, head of BLUETTI’s LAAF programme, emphasized that the donation specifically targets displaced families in Baringo County, Kenya, where conflicts and natural disasters have significantly disrupted livelihoods. The programme is a crucial part of BLUETTI’s broader vision to bring solar energy to one million off-grid families across Africa.
“Everyone deserves access to electricity,” said Yang. “Through LAAF, we’re not just providing light—we’re empowering off-grid communities to improve education, business, and quality of life with clean, renewable energy.”
The solar systems were distributed to communities in Baringo North, Baringo South, and Tiaty East and West, regions that have long struggled with electricity access due to conflicts, flooding, and geographic isolation. The Kenya Red Cross highlighted the importance of this donation, stating that the solar lamps will provide essential lighting and enable families to charge their phones, ensuring better communication and access to vital information, including early warning messages.
Leveraging its expertise in solar and energy storage, BLUETTI aims to equip local communities with sustainable energy solutions and the knowledge to use them effectively. This donation not only brings immediate relief to displaced families but also paves the way for long-term energy resilience in Kenya and beyond.
Since its launch in 2021, BLUETTI’s LAAF programme has illuminated over 15,000 households across 11 countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Malawi. The company remains committed to expanding its reach, continually investing in sustainable energy solutions for vulnerable populations.
At the recently concluded 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), BLUETTI announced a strategic partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). This collaboration seeks to accelerate the adoption of solar energy across Africa, further solidifying the company’s commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.
As energy access remains a pressing issue in many African regions, BLUETTI’s efforts, in partnership with organizations like the Kenya Red Cross and UN-Habitat, serve as a beacon of hope for communities in need. Through continued investments in renewable energy, the company is making significant strides towards a brighter and more resilient future for Africa.
