On Wednesday, Google unveiled its largest campus in India, ‘Ananta,’ marking a significant milestone in the tech giant’s expansion in the country. Located in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, the new facility boasts a seating capacity of over 5,000 and is designed with a strong focus on sustainability, accessibility, and artificial intelligence (AI). The name ‘Ananta,’ derived from Sanskrit, translates to ‘infinite’ or ‘limitless,’ reflecting Google’s vision for the campus as a hub of innovation and technological advancement.
Google’s India leadership emphasized the pivotal role that Ananta will play in the company’s AI-first strategy. Preeti Lobana, vice president and country manager at Google India, highlighted how the company has been shifting towards AI-driven solutions over the past six years. She noted that India’s vast talent pool and growing AI ecosystem make it an ideal location for fostering innovation on a global scale.
“Ananta will be known not just for the innovations that emerge from within its walls powered by India but for the world but also for its lasting impact,” Lobana said. “This new campus marks a milestone in the ongoing seismic shift in technology. It is a testament to our ambition to innovate and drive the next transformative leap in AI.”
Sustainability is a core pillar of Ananta’s design. Google has ensured that the materials used in the construction of the campus are sourced almost entirely from local suppliers. This approach aligns with the company’s broader global sustainability initiatives, which aim to reduce carbon footprints and promote responsible resource utilization.
The campus is also designed to be highly accessible, catering to diverse needs through inclusive infrastructure and cutting-edge technology. The emphasis on sustainability and accessibility underscores Google’s commitment to creating workspaces that are not only technologically advanced but also environmentally and socially responsible.
India has emerged as a key player in the global AI landscape, with companies like Google investing heavily in research and development within the country. Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley, continues to be a strategic location for global tech firms. With Ananta, Google reinforces its belief in India’s potential to drive AI innovation at scale.
As AI continues to shape industries worldwide, Google’s investment in Ananta reflects a long-term vision of leveraging Indian talent to develop solutions that address global challenges. The launch of this campus solidifies India’s position as a crucial hub for the future of AI and sustainable technology.
