A tragic accident in Eldoret has claimed the lives of four people and left eight others injured on Wednesday, July 3. The accident occurred at 5 PM along the Iten-Eldoret Highway in the Moiben area, involving a public service vehicle (PSV) matatu belonging to 2 Ways Shuttle.
Police reports indicate that the matatu’s tire burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road and rolled into a ditch, resulting in the immediate deaths of two male and two female adults. Photos from the accident scene revealed the severe damage to the matatu, underscoring the magnitude of the crash.
The injured passengers, who sustained serious injuries, were swiftly transported to Iten County Hospital for emergency treatment. Preliminary investigations by the police have confirmed that the tire burst led to the loss of control, ultimately causing the fatal accident.
This incident comes just weeks after another tragic accident in Salgaa, Nakuru County, where five people died on Saturday, May 25. That accident occurred at 3:30 AM when a 14-seater matatu collided with a truck on the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway. Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed that the matatu was headed to Nakuru from Eldoret at the time of the collision.
Both accidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of vehicle maintenance standards to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
