Tragic Attack in Homa Bay: 68-Year-Old Deaf Woman Raped and Killed

A 68-year-old deaf woman was brutally raped and murdered in her home on Monday night. The victim, Wilkister Odanga, was discovered dead on Tuesday morning, sparking a police investigation into the heinous crime.

According to local reports, Wilkister Odanga, a widow who had been living alone since her husband’s death over a decade ago, was found by a relative who had gone to check on her after she failed to respond to calls. The relative discovered Odanga’s lifeless body lying on her bed, prompting immediate alarm and the notification of local authorities.

Initial findings suggest that the assailants gained entry into Odanga’s home through a cut made on the door. The fact that the elderly woman was deaf and unable to speak is believed to have left her particularly vulnerable, as she was unable to call for help or alert neighbors during the attack. This vulnerability may have played a significant role in the assailants’ decision to target her.

Wilkister Odanga’s body showed clear signs of violence. There were visible marks on her face, and it is suspected that she was sexually assaulted before her death. This additional layer of violence underscores the brutal nature of the crime, which has left the community reeling and in mourning.

Local village elder Alice Opiyo, who was among the first to be informed of the incident, described the shock and sorrow felt by the community. Opiyo reported receiving the news at around 10 a.m. and expressed deep concern over the safety and security of residents in the area. She has called on the community to cooperate fully with the police as they conduct their investigation into the murder.

Despite the horrific nature of the crime, it appears that nothing of value was stolen from Odanga’s home. This aspect of the attack raises further questions about the motive behind the crime, suggesting that it may have been driven by factors beyond mere theft.

The local police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. They are working to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding Odanga’s murder. The authorities have also urged anyone with information about the crime to come forward and assist with their inquiries.

The body of Wilkister Odanga has been transported to the Homa Bay mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted. This examination is expected to provide further insights into the cause of death and any additional details that could aid in the investigation.

The murder of Wilkister Odanga has not only shocked her family and neighbors but has also highlighted broader concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals in the community. The fact that Odanga, who was unable to defend herself or seek help, became a victim of such a brutal crime has intensified calls for increased vigilance and support for the elderly and disabled in the region.

As the investigation continues, the residents of Nyagidha village are left grappling with the tragedy and seeking answers. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served and that those responsible for this abhorrent act will be brought to account.
