Belfast’s largest hotel operator, Andras House, has strengthened its presence in Northern Ireland’s hospitality sector by acquiring the Travelodge in Belfast city centre for £8.75 million. The purchase marks a strategic expansion for the company, which has been actively growing its portfolio in recent years.
A Strategic Investment in Belfast’s Hospitality Market
Andras House’s decision to acquire the 90-bedroom Travelodge on Brunswick Street aligns with its commitment to expanding and modernizing its hotel offerings. The company has also announced plans for further investment in the property, with a refurbishment project aimed at enhancing the guest experience.
Rajesh Rana, director of Andras House, emphasized the significance of the acquisition, stating:
“Travelodge is a strong brand at the budget end of the UK market which people recognise and understand, and we are delighted to be its franchise operator in Northern Ireland.”
Previous Acquisitions and Growth Plans
This is not the first major hotel acquisition by Andras House. In 2023, the company purchased the 146-bedroom ETAP Hotel on Dublin Road for £7.35 million, further solidifying its position in Belfast’s competitive hospitality market.
In addition to operating Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, Andras House has an ambitious development pipeline, including plans for an aparthotel scheme on Great Victoria Street. Aparthotels, which combine the comforts of home with hotel-style services, have been gaining popularity among business and leisure travelers, making this a promising investment.
A Resilient Hotel Market in Northern Ireland
Despite economic challenges, the hotel sector has remained the busiest segment of Northern Ireland’s commercial property market, even during the slower periods of 2024 and early 2025.
Other notable transactions in the industry include:
- McKeever Hotel Group acquiring The Lodge in Coleraine
- Donegal businessmen Patrick and Edmund Simpson taking over Da Vinci’s Hotel in Londonderry
These acquisitions highlight continued investor confidence in Northern Ireland’s hospitality industry, driven by the region’s strong tourism appeal and a growing demand for budget-friendly and mid-range accommodation.
Impact on Belfast’s Hospitality Industry
Andras House’s expansion contributes to Belfast’s long-term tourism strategy, ensuring a diverse range of accommodation options for visitors. The investment in Travelodge will likely improve the city’s hospitality infrastructure, attracting more budget-conscious travelers while reinforcing Belfast’s position as a leading destination for both business and leisure tourism.
With steady growth in tourism, increased visitor numbers, and ongoing investment in the city’s hotel sector, Belfast’s hospitality industry appears well-positioned for continued success. Andras House’s latest acquisition reaffirms its role as a key player in shaping the future of Northern Ireland’s hotel market.
