Azym Dossa, the founder of Easy Coach Limited, has officially stepped down as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. The veteran businessman, known for revolutionizing the long-distance transport industry in Kenya, cited health concerns and advanced age as the primary reasons for his decision. This has not been an easy decision. However, given my recent health challenges associated with advanced age, I am of the opinion that this is the right time for me to step down. The directors and shareholders of the company have kindly acceded to my request.”
Dossa played a key role in shaping Kenya’s passenger transport industry by introducing structured and customer-friendly services. His vision was to create a reliable, safe, and comfortable bus service, an idea that led to the formation of Easy Coach in the early 2000s. Over the years, the company expanded its network, connecting major cities and towns across the country.
One of Dossa’s most notable contributions to the sector was the introduction of passenger lounges at booking offices, a concept that was uncommon in the Kenyan public transport sector at the time. This innovation provided travelers with a safe and comfortable waiting area, setting a new standard for bus services.
Under his leadership, Easy Coach became a household name, known for its punctuality, well-maintained fleet, and exceptional customer service. The company’s buses operate on strict schedules, offering passengers an alternative to the often chaotic matatu system.
In a memo addressed to Easy Coach staff, Dossa expressed his sentiments about stepping down from his position:
“This has not been an easy decision. However, given my recent health challenges associated with advanced age, I am of the opinion that this is the right time for me to step down. The directors and shareholders of the company have kindly acceded to my request.”
His departure marks the end of an era for the company, but his influence on Kenya’s transport sector will remain significant.
Following Dossa’s resignation, the company’s directors and shareholders are expected to appoint a new CEO to steer Easy Coach into the future. While no successor has been announced yet, industry analysts expect that the company will maintain its commitment to quality service and operational efficiency.
The next phase for Easy Coach could involve digital transformation, with a stronger focus on online bookings and modern payment systems. The transport industry is rapidly evolving, with cashless transactions and real-time tracking becoming standard expectations from passengers.
Beyond building a successful transport company, Dossa has been instrumental in creating jobs and supporting economic growth in Kenya. Easy Coach employs hundreds of workers, including drivers, mechanics, office staff, and customer service personnel. His leadership has provided many Kenyans with a stable source of income and opportunities for career growth.
As he steps down, Dossa leaves behind a solid legacy of professionalism and service excellence. His journey in the transport sector is a testament to the power of vision, innovation, and perseverance.
While his absence at the helm will be felt, the strong foundation he has built ensures that Easy Coach remains a leader in Kenya’s transport industry for years to come.
