The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial closure of Kipande Road in Nairobi from Friday, December 27, 2024, to Tuesday, December 31, 2024. This temporary closure will allow for the installation of a cross culvert, a vital infrastructure improvement aimed at enhancing the road’s connectivity.
KeNHA has outlined that the closure will take place on a single bound of Kipande Road at a time, with traffic being diverted to Ngara Road. Motorists are advised to follow the designated diversion routes, which include the Embu-Nairobi Highway, Prof. Wangari Maathai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and Kolobot Road. These alternative routes are expected to help ease traffic flow while the necessary work is carried out.
The authority has urged all drivers to exercise caution around the work zones, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the proposed traffic management plan during this period. The installation of the cross culvert is a significant step toward improving the road’s infrastructure, ensuring a more seamless connection in line with KeNHA’s ongoing efforts to enhance Nairobi’s road network.
This announcement follows a similar notification by KeNHA regarding the closure of a section of the Southern Bypass for the next two weeks. The closure, which began on December 24, 2024, at 8 pm and is expected to last until Sunday, January 5, 2025, will affect both sides of the road from the Ole Sereni Interchange to the Ngong Road Interchange. The closure is part of a larger rehabilitation project that includes the upgrading of expansion joints on all bridges along the section and the reconstruction of the concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge.
KeNHA’s simultaneous roadworks projects highlight the authority’s commitment to improving the quality of Kenya’s road infrastructure, especially in Nairobi, where traffic congestion has long been a challenge. These upgrades are expected to reduce future disruptions, increase road safety, and improve the flow of traffic in the long term.
Motorists are urged to plan their journeys ahead and use the alternative routes provided to avoid delays during these essential roadworks. KeNHA also advises the public to stay updated on any further announcements regarding road closures and diversions as they continue their efforts to improve the city’s road network.
