The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) has introduced an awe-inspiring addition to its iconic venue a state-of-the-art dancing fountain system designed to transform the event experience and elevate Kenya’s appeal as a premier destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE). The stunning new fountains, which integrate choreographed water displays with patriotic music and vibrant lighting, aim to captivate audiences and create memorable moments for both local and international guests. This initiative marks a significant step in KICC’s mission to enhance guest experiences and attract high-profile events to Nairobi.
The technologically advanced fountains are fully programmable, allowing them to synchronize with a wide variety of musical genres, from traditional Kenyan anthems to contemporary pop, jazz, and classical compositions. This flexibility ensures that each performance can be tailored to suit the specific tone and branding of an event, whether it’s a gala dinner, a trade show, or a public celebration. The fountains promise a sensory spectacle, blending visual artistry and musical rhythms to deliver an experience reminiscent of world-famous attractions such as the Dubai Fountain at Burj Khalifa.
Geoffrey Thande, the Director of Business Development at KICC, expressed pride in unveiling the only installation of its kind in Africa. He emphasized that the dancing fountains represent a bold move to distinguish Kenya on the global stage by offering event planners and attendees something truly unique. “With the introduction of our stunning dancing fountains, we are redefining the event experience at KICC. The fountains will be the only one of their kind in Africa. They will be like the ones of Burj Khalifa in Dubai,” said Thande. He further highlighted that this initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the venue but also serves as a dynamic focal point for various entertainment productions and corporate events.
In an effort to maximize the potential of this new feature, KICC is planning to host family-themed extravaganzas and other weekend events centered around the fountain shows. Discussions are underway with the Nairobi County government to facilitate the temporary closure of City Hall Way during weekends to accommodate these events, thereby providing a safe and accessible space for families and visitors to enjoy the spectacle.
The launch of the fountains also underscores KICC’s broader strategy to provide world-class facilities and stay ahead in the competitive global MICE industry. The venue is set to unveil two additional enhancements to solidify its position as a leading convention centre in Africa. The revolving restaurant located on the 27th floor is currently undergoing redevelopment, promising visitors a refined dining experience with panoramic views of Nairobi’s skyline. Additionally, the KICC tower is poised to offer a high-tech advertising platform that will further attract business interest and increase revenue generation.
The grand unveiling of the dancing fountains will coincide with a special event on the 20th of this month, during the Safari Rally Flag Off Ceremony. The evening will feature a live demonstration of the fountains accompanied by live music and dramatic special effects, offering invited guests—ranging from event organizers to corporate leaders and media representatives—a firsthand look at the transformative potential of this remarkable installation. This initiative reaffirms KICC’s commitment to innovation and its ongoing efforts to position Kenya as a compelling destination for global events and tourism.
