The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a partial closure of Quarry Road in the Mlolongo/Syokimau area to facilitate rehabilitation and improvement works. The closure, which will last for two months, will take effect from Monday, February 24, 2025, at 6:00 AM and is expected to end on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:00 PM.
In an official notice, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti emphasized the necessity of the closure, citing the need to restore the road’s condition and enhance traffic flow in the area. ”We wish to notify the general public that sections of Quarry Road in the Mlolongo/Syokimau area will be closed due to the rehabilitation and improvement works along the route,” Kinoti stated.
Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes during this period and adhere to traffic guidelines issued by law enforcement officers. KURA has assured that necessary diversions will be in place to ease congestion and ensure smooth travel for road users.
The move comes after prolonged complaints from Syokimau residents who had raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of roads in the region. Many had lamented that massive potholes and cracks on the road network had caused significant damage to vehicles, leading to increased maintenance costs. Additionally, the issue had contributed to heavy traffic congestion and increased travel time within the area.
The poor road conditions were further exacerbated by recent floods, which overwhelmed drainage systems and worsened the already damaged infrastructure. Several motorists had reported instances of stalled vehicles and accidents attributed to the road’s poor state. The damage also posed risks to pedestrians and cyclists who rely on the road network for daily commutes.
KURA has reassured the public that the ongoing rehabilitation is part of a broader initiative to improve urban road networks and enhance transport efficiency. Residents and business owners in the Mlolongo and Syokimau areas have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the repairs will significantly enhance road safety and reduce vehicle repair costs.
As the roadworks commence, KURA has requested the cooperation of all road users and encouraged patience during the construction period. Regular updates on the progress of the project will be provided, and the authority has urged motorists to stay informed on alternative routes and traffic diversions to minimize disruptions.
The rehabilitation of Quarry Road is expected to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient transport system in the Mlolongo and Syokimau areas, ultimately benefiting residents, businesses, and commuters in the long run.
