Along with adhering to speed limits, drivers are also urged to maintain sobriety. The NTSA has highlighted the importance of driving sober, calling it “the silent hero of every safe trip home.” Drunk driving continues to be a major contributor to road fatalities in Kenya, especially during festive seasons when celebrations often lead to excessive alcohol consumption. The authorities have warned drivers against the temptation to drive under the influence of alcohol and have reminded them of the legal consequences, which include heavy fines and potential imprisonment.
In the event that a vehicle breaks down or stalls on the road, vehicle owners have been instructed to remove the vehicle as quickly as possible to avoid causing a hazard. If the vehicle cannot be moved immediately, owners must take precautionary measures, such as placing reflective warning signs to alert approaching traffic. This directive aims to prevent accidents that often occur when drivers fail to see stalled vehicles in time, especially in low-visibility conditions or at night.
The NTSA also emphasizes the need for adequate rest before embarking on long journeys.
